GS1 in Industry


GS1 Ireland and its team is supported by several committees & Working Groups.  Members are drawn from GS1 Ireland's membership and bring a wide range of experience and talents to meetings. 

The eCommerce Committee is a forum of retailers and suppliers who meet to keep abreast of EDI and eCommerce developments both internationally and in Ireland.  The committee is responsible for the promotion and development of EDI standards for both existing users and potential users in new sectors.  The Committee, through its GDSN Working Group, is also charged with the development and promotion of data synchronisation services in Ireland.


The Healthcare Committee was formed to specifically helpstakeholders in the Healthcare Sector to leverage the benefits of GS1 Standards.  The Committee has a number of working groups which are addressing a wide range of critical issues facing the sector such as anti counterfeit and medical device traceability, and to facilitate the growth and spread of eCommerce practices. The GS1 System offers many opportunities to improve patient safety, operational efficieny and value for money in Healthcare service.


The Hardware/DIY Committee has been working to oversee the industry-wide agreement, adoption and rollout of a standard Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) message.  Thr group comprised of suppliers and retailers from the sector, has recently completed the successful implementation of a standard EDI invoice message.  The group is working on the roll out of more messages in the coming months.


The Foodservice Working Group has been established to tackle the issues surrounding bar coding and product identification in the Irish Foodservice Sector.  The objective of the Group is to realise the benefits of adopting GS1 standards, and to establish  industry initiatives that will lead to improved supply chain operational efficiencies.  The group comprises of several major stakeholders in the Irish Foodservice sector and aims to unify, simplify and standardise the industry processes.
